Update History of Jeremy's Antique Radios

Archived Guestbook from Geocities (2006 - 2009)

June 5th 2011 - Been almost a year between updates! There have been several significant changes in my life during the past year, some good and some bad. I took a long hiatus from the funner things in life like working on old radios, electronics, and swap meets during the past 12 months. I am slowing making a reemergence into this great hobby, and plan to be much more active in the upcoming months.

Currently being restored is a Philco 650X that belongs to a family friend. This Philco has required extensive work to the electronics, such as tracking down a replacement original speaker and rewinding an open shadow meter coil to name a few. The cabinet is currently undergoing a complete restoration that includes quite a bit of veneer work and replacement.

Recent additions to my old radio gallery include a Silvertone 3451 and a RCA AP-937 power supply. Both of these were purchased last fall from a junk store that was going out of business.

August 11th, 2010
- This has been a hectic and busy summer! Quite a bit has been accomplished, but unfortunately many of my radio projects have been slow coming. I undertook four radio restorations for a friend of the family this year. The first two, an Emerson 503 and a Electomatic AR-501, were recently completed with the remaining two currently in the shop in various states of completion.

My big project was the completion of a 12' X 24' building for wood/metal work and storage. Completion required internal wiring, service wiring (100A, fed underground), fully insulating the walls/ceiling, finishing the walls with hardboard, floor coating, and building shelving/workbenches. Air conditioning was a must, along with a good ceiling fan, high output fluorescent lighting, and a COLD refrigerator! I did most of this on my own in the record setting June heat, but the efforts have proven to be well rewarding.

May 16th, 2010 -  Completed the restoration of my Westinghouse WR-334.

May 6th, 2010 - It has been a long time in between updates! Demanding engineering courses at Purdue University have caused me to put my life on hold during most of the year. This means very little time to work at my bench, and NO time to keep up with this web page.

Fortunately I have several months of free time coming up and hope to finally get things moving around here. The electronics in my Westinghouse WR-334 are completely restored, and the cabinet has been reassembled with most of the veneer patched. It is only awaiting some minor cabinet repairs and a complete refinish to be finished.

My big project this summer will be the construction of a second shop. My second shop will house tools like an air compressor, spray booth, small dust collector, and a sand blaster to name a few. It is also going to serve as a storage building to store several of my project radios, giving me the opportunity to expand my radio display room. In the past, doing cabinet work and refinishing for me is very dependent on weather conditions. With my new shop, it will be climate controlled so work can be done anytime, year-round.

This web page is also going to experience some updates this summer. The badly dated "Test Equipment" and "Other Electronics" pages are going to be revised and reorganized. The latest updates include revising the "Links" page, and fixing bad links/images due to my domain change last year.

October 14th 2009: It has been a while since I've updated my page! Other endeavors (college) have consumed most of my time and kept me away from the workbench. I can finally say that I am catching up on other non-radio projects and can now take on a few of these radios!
Currently on the bench is a Westinghouse WR-334 that I bought at the spring IHRS meet in Kokomo Indiana. I plan to have the Westinghouse completed by the end of next month. Another recent addition to my collection is a Zenith 10S160 that was a local Craigslist find.

July 19th, 2009 - Recent restorations are a RCA 100A speaker and a Philco PT-12. New additions to the gallery include a Atwater Kent 35 and a Westinghouse WR-10.

May 19th, 2009 - I've Moved! My long term web host Geocities decided to close their doors this upcoming summer, prompting me to bite the bullet and upgrade to my own domain. Benefits of this besides my own domain name are faster download/upload speeds and more room. Many updates to come in the following weeks as everything is moved over and much more is added.

Radio gallery additions include a Hallicrafters SX-110 and a Majestic 15.

April 26th 2009 - Finished the restoration of my Philco 38-116 and a Zenith 6D2614. More radios to be added soon, mostly from the spring IHRS swap meet.

November 2nd, 2008 - Added six more radios to the gallery: Philco 16L, Philco 40-140, RCA BC7-9, Zenith 6D2614, Zenith 6G801, and a Telefunken Jubilate 5161W.

August 6th, 2008: Restoration has begun on my Philco 38-116.

June 4th, 2008: The spring semester is over and summer is once again upon us! Latest restoration is a Delco R-1129 console, which was immediately sold after restoration due to continued downsizing efforts. Like ever summer in the past, radios seem to take a hiatus due to other activities. Perhaps I'll manage a few more restorations.....

April 26th, 2008 - I've been published! I was pleasantly surprised to find my article in this quarters IHRS Bulletin. If you not a member, you can view the article here, IHRS Spring Bulletin. If your not familiar with the IHRS, it stands for Indiana Historical Radio Society, which is an Indiana based radio club that publishes a quarterly bulletin and hosts several meetings and swaps throughout the year.

As for radio projects. I have a few new additions to my collection, and a few have left for new homes. My Delco R-1129 is currently undergoing restoration, and will hopefully be completed within the next month.

February 16th, 2008: Completed the restoration of a Philco 40-100.

December 18th 2007: Recent restorations include a Crolsey 5V1 and a Philco 41-221.

November 24th, 2007: Completed the restoration of a Zenith 8S463.

October 20th, 2007: Completed the restoration of a Philco 54C. Added a Crosley 5V1, Delco R-1129, and a Zenith 6S229 to the gallery.

October 6th, 2007: Added a recently restored Delco R-1151. Also added three Philco radios to the gallery: 54C, 41-841 and a 41-843.

August 2nd 2007: Completed the restoration of my Philco 44. Added a Hallicrafters S-40B to the gallery.

June 10th 2007: The summer season is here; swap meets, radio field days, fishing, and party's galore! With work and other activities, my continuously growing pile of project radios will just have to wait for a while. In other words, I'm taking a short hiatus from anything radio for a while. Check back this fall for more updates!

Au revoir et apprécier l'été !

November 10th, 2006: Newest addition to the gallery is a Silvertone model 9000.

November 1st, 2006: New gallery addition is my newly restored GE 106.

September 10th 2006: New additions to the radio gallery; Radiola 18 , Silvertone 7037, and my Philco 59C page was updated.

July 2nd, 2006: Updated my Emerson 724 page.

June 23rd, 2006: Not much new around here. Tied up a few loose ends on my RCA 224, including replacing the missing knobs.  This summer has been pretty slow for working on radios, I've been devoting most of my time to other activities. My Philco 59C is coming along, despite some major electrical problems. After a major collection downsizing over the past two years, I have decided not to purchase any more radios until my current collection of around thirty radios is totally restored. That alone could take years.

May 23rd, 2006 : Completed the restoration of my RCA 224. Other than that, not much for page updates.

April 8th, 2006 : Completed the restoration of my Meck 4C7. My RCA 224 is coming along, very slowly however as time permits. My goal is to at least get the cabinet repaired and the chassis restored by this summer. My list of project radios is still very long, and it includes some high quality receivers which will sound and look great after a proper restoration.

March 5th, 2006 :  Hard on the heels of my GE L-660, I just recently finished restoring my RCA X-711.  With the work bench clear for a change, I'm going to tackle my RCA 224, which hopefully won't be very tough. Once warm weather arrives, I can dig into some cabinets.

February 28th, 2006 : Things are finally starting to move around here. This month I added three new radios to my collection, a Philco 3118B Canadian Tombstone, a massive Philco 38-116 console, and a Philco 59C. To make room for these, I gave away a couple of consoles, and several other items such as boxes of tubes and some test equipment. I completed the restoration of my GE L-660. The radio now plays and looks great! I'm currently restoring my RCA X-711, which was a dumpster freebie from years ago. When complete, it will probably find it's way out the door.

January 29th, 2006 : Finally completed my Test Equipment page, adding several photos of my equipment.

January 22nd, 2006 :  Not much to add for the past two months. I started off my new year by finding my PC had literally blown up. So I have spent the past several weeks building a new one. Not much radio repairs lately. Page updates include my Philco H765-124, which I recently restored, and is currently for sale at a local antique mall. I also updated the "About Me" Page.

November 13th, 2005 :  Finally completed my Philco 39-30! It only took three years to restore. That brings me up to seven radios restored this year. With the current college semester ending in about month, and several large holiday weekends coming up, I'm hoping to add a few more to that list of being restored.

November 6th, 2005: Not much has happened this past month. I added one new radio to my gallery, a Airline Lowboy. I still have several radios on the bench, but with free time becoming more scarce for me, I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever have time to add all of my radios to my gallery, much less actually restore them. I've slowly but surly been thinning out my collection, selling six radios over the past year. I know that's not allot, but I did take the time to restore them, so they were ready play, and safe to use for the new owners. I still have several table top radios and two consoles that I would like to get rid of whenever time permits.

October 2nd, 2005: Latest addition to the gallery is a RCA 224, which will have it's turn at the bench soon, and a Rola D-110 speaker. My two current projects right now are my Zenith 9-S-262 and a Philco 39-30, which both require several reproduction parts.

September 12th, 2005: Not much this month for new page additions. Two recent projects that have been completed are a RCA 66X13 and a Philco PT-41. I still however, have several radios waiting to be restored. I will have to tackle these as time permits.

August 27th, 2005:  The end of summer has arrived, along with a few new additions to my collection. Recent acquisitions include a General Electric L-660 from 1941, and a CDV 717 Geiger Counter.  I have a couple of projects on the bench right now. They include a massive Zenith 9-S-262 which is undergoing a total, and very tedious restoration. My RCA 66X13, which is also undergoing a restoration at this time.

July 10th, 2005: The summer sure has been flying by! I was able to make it to the Indy Hamfest, where I picked up several radio parts, and a few other items. I'm still working on downsizing my collection, which has been a slow eight month effort so far. I've changed my collecting interested from anything, to certain wooden cabinet radios, mostly pre 1942.

Recent page additions: A few testers I sold years ago, including a B&K 600, B&K 470, and a Accurate Instruments 157.

June 30th, 2005: Just finished my RCA 8X542. Updated photos, and a restoration article are now available. I still have a long line of projects, but not enough time to tackle them. My Meck 4C7 is very near completion, I'm still waiting for a few parts, such as replacement knobs.

June 6th, 2005:  Recent page additions include a RCA 8X542 to the galley, which is also currently being restored. My Meck 4C7 is nearing completion, just wait on some knobs to arrive. Swap meet season has arrived for me, so maybe there will be some new stuff on here soon.

May 14th, 2005: Not much for new acquisitions this year, I have however been catching up on some projects.  My Silvertone 1982A is finally complete, after a slow moving six month restore. My Meck 4C7 is coming along, I am at the point of waiting for more parts to arrive. With the bench almost empty for once, I'm getting ready to dig into a good basket-case project. Stay tuned for more updates!

April 29th, 2005: Warmer weather has arrived, meaning I can finally work some cabinets, plus I have much more free time since college is about to let out for the summer. I still have several, if not dozens of radios I would like to add to my gallery as time permits. Once this site grows, and evolves a little more, I cam considering upgrading to my own domain name.

Page additions include a Philco 39-30, Philco H765-124Meck Industries 4C7 and a B&K 747B tube tester. Many other pages were also updated and revised.

April 3rd, 2005: Progress on any project, including this webpage has been very slow lately.  My current project, a Silvertone 1982A, is nearing completion. The chassis has been restored, and is working with a few minor problems. The cabinet has been stripped of it's non-original polyurethane finish, and is undergoing a few small repairs.

March 13th 2005: Latest addition to the site: a Plastic GE radio  added to my gallery. Other updates include recent progress on my Silvertone 1982A radio, which is the current project on my workbench.

March 6th, 2005:  Recent website updates include a complete remodel of  my Homepage, and Collection gallery, making them more compatible with different resolutions. I also added a Westinghouse WR-388 to my gallery.

February 20th, 2005: Page updates have been coming along quite slow lately. Latest page update is a guestbook located on my main page. More to come as time permits.

January 30th, 2005:  Progress on the Silvertone Tombstone is coming along. I'm to the point of troubleshooting it, after being successfully power up. Recent Page additions include a Yamaha CR-620 receiverEmerson  724RCA 66X13, and some other misc. page updates.

January 21st, 2005: Due to my very busy work/college schedule, any work on radios, or this website come in my very scarce free time. I do still manage to get a little in when time permits. My current project is a Silvertone Tombstone, while still has many problems, is coming along snag free so far. I still have many radios to add to my gallery, plus some test equipment, so stay tuned....
